I felt it compelling to share this excellent and timeless presentation from Seth Godin on Tribes. In this TED lecture, he discusses how the world of marketing has undergone tectonic change in the past century and points to how the future of marketing will centre around the concept of Thought Leadership. Simultaneously and with the subtlety of “plutonium deodorant“, I’d like to welcome you to the burgeoning Business Medics tribe!
The concept of “The Tribe” is as old as human civilisation itself and has sculpted human society in a myriad of different guises, so how come it is undergoing a marketing makeover in this high tech modern society we live in?
It all comes down to our needs to challenge the status quo and facilitate positive change, which are the boundaries within which marketing resides and thrives. Everything from understanding your customer’s buying characteristics through to creating cheaper, faster, better, slicker products. Ultimately the process is all about harnessing the power within networks and communities by leading and connecting people with ideas.
This humble follower will expand on the relevance of tribes to SME’s in future blogs through an infographic applied to the concept of SME networking. Suffice it to say that the presentation is powerful enough to stimulate thoughts and crystallise ideas and is well worth investing no more than 18 minutes of quality learning time.
Just to give you a lead, here is a brief list of “the forensic tribal blueprint” which can help you start to facilitate this process of change:
- Tell a story
- Start to connect
- Lead a movement
- Create change
In conclusion and in a shameless attempt to grab the millennial vote, this quote from Soul Analyse sums things up succinctly “ Let your vibe attract your tribe!”
